As Seen In The Telegraph

The Telegraph Business Reporter’s article on business recovery featured Mechatronic as an example of a company whose servitization strategy had been key to achieving 400% growth in sales.

The feature was published in September 2020, entitled:

“Recovery that starts at the roots”

As the UK is now over 6 months into pandemic, the feature explored the impact on the small businesses that make up a vast proportion of the economy. The introduction reads:

“Coronavirus has put untold pressure on small companies. We need a system that supports small businesses at every point and enables them to face the next 12 months with confidence and strength
SMEs are the beating heart of the UK economy.

“In today’s era of sustained crisis, the Small Business Leadership Programme is ensuring that they can survive and stay healthy.”

The Small Business Leadership Programme involves partnering leading business schools with SME business owners and directors, to help them become more resilient and productive. The business schools are assessed by the Small Business Charter, a national accreditation for those business schools supporting small business. This programme was born out of the the success of previous programmes, including one attended by Mechatronic Solutions.

400% Sales Growth

The Telegraph featured Mechatronic as one of the previous success stories:

“…in Birmingham, via the support of Aston Business School, the founder of automation company Mechatronic Solutions transformed their engineering company after completing the business school’s servitisation programme.

“The programme enabled the company to shift its focus from simply selling machines to providing automation as a service, while also honing leadership skills and bringing about a complete transformation to the business. The result was that the business has grown by approximately 400 per cent in the past five years.”

The Mechatronic case study was used to highlight the potential for businesses who embrace the business programmes.

Servitization at Mechatronic

The concept of servitization revolutionised the thinking at Mechatronic. The company evolved from seeing itself as a developer and manufacturer of automation machinery, to an overriding vision that this was delivering service to its clients.

No longer is service an ‘added value’, this was a total shift in philosophy.

The result was a 400% increase in sales.

Mechatronic was also rewarded with 2 awards, recognising its participation in the programme.
