    Development Engineer

    Job Description – Development Engineer

    Job Functions

    To assemble and build specially designed machines, manufacturing and robotic systems from CAD drawings to the required specification, within the allotted time, and to the customers complete satisfaction.

    Job type

    Full Time – (37.5 hrs per week)

    • 8 hours per day – (07:30 – 16:00) Monday to Thursday
    • 5.5 hours (07:30 – 13:00) Friday
    • Monday to Thursday
    • Overtime may be available as required

    Team Leaders

    Development Engineer

     

    • A Mechtech Automation Group project can vary in size from £50k up to £2m.
    • Automated Machines can vary in complexity and require integration of numerous technologies ranging from but not limited to, 6 axis robots, marking laser, and ultrasonics
    • Mechtech Automation Group’s designs are expected to be innovative, robust, aesthetically pleasing to fall in with the brand and be “right first time”.
    • Underpinning all Mechtech Automation Group’s Jobs are the Mechtech Automation Group’s systems and procedures (See Mechtech Automation Group’s Operation Manual), and the need to comply with the ISO 9001 Quality System and CE safety standards.

    Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

    1. Build and assemble machines working to: Written specifications, CAD drawings, a build manual and supplied kits of parts when the project is launched to the shop floor.
    2. Sub assemble and fit parts (ready made tooling and other bought out items) to frames and to mating parts.  Involves marking up, drilling, tapping, adjusting and some machining of parts.
    3. Manufacture machine support and guard frames from “Aluminium Extrusion”, working from drawings.  Involves measuring, cutting and assembling.
    4. Make (fabricate and machine up) items such as brackets and plates to facilitate the build process or modify bought in tooling.
    5. Build pneumatic assemblies, connect and pipe up pneumatic circuits, determine routing runs liaising with the electrical and design departments
    6. Have the capability and knowledge to mount and set up an array of different sensing methods, including inductive, optical and lasers sensors.
    7. Work cohesively as part of a cross-functional team, co-ordinating with designers, project leaders, electricians and software engineers.
    8. Run up and commission machines, using customers’ components in order to verify that the machine works correctly. Demonstrate the correct operation to the customer as required to prove machine functions to specification and to help train the customer.
    9. Liase during and after the build phase with Designers to update the build manual and feedback any modifications made during the build and machine commissioning phase.
    10. Inform Workshop Team Leader of any actual or potential problems including parts that don’t fit, part shortages, issues with designs.
    11. Help to solve mechanical problems by working with the Team Leader and the Designer.
    12. Be present at shop floor (coal face) action meetings (hosted by either the Project Leader or Team Leader) in order to maintain good progress on the project build.
    13. Review designs with Project Leaders and Designers, when applicable, prior to the manufacturing stage. Be able to critically evaluate the design from a build and maintenance perspective.
    14. Work with the design department during the design phase and contribute to any required proof of principle development work for a project.
    15. Generally support the maintenance of the factory by undertaking other reasonable duties as requested by management.

     

    Person profile

    The successful job holder (or candidate) will need to:

    • Possess several years’ relevant experience.
    • Be apprentice trained or have received appropriate formal training
    • Possess appropriate qualifications (City and Guilds or similar).
    • Have a high level of practical craft based skills.
    • Be self motivated to produce high quality results at high levels of output.
    • Be capable of working under own initiative, but also be happy working alongside others as part of the Team. Support and direction will be available.
    • Be able to solve problems, but also know when it’s better to ask for help.
    • Possess basic machining skills (lathe, milling machine, grinding machine). Advanced skills would be an advantage.

    • Have a pleasant personality and be able to communicate well with colleagues and with customers

    Main Purpose of Position:

    The design of bespoke automated machines, manufacturing systems and ‘Off the Shelf’ Configurable robotic solutions, in order fulfil the specification outlined in the customers order and the Mechtech Automation Group’s quotation.

     

    Design to ensure the machines and systems meet the specification outlined in the customers order, and are designed, built and delivered on time, within budget and are “right first time”

     Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

    1. Design machines and systems from the concept stage through to the final detailed stage in order to fulfil the specification outlined in the customers order and in the Mechtech Automation Group’s quotation.
      • Involved with the planning, organising and managing meetings with the Customer in conjunction with the Project Leader
      • Specifying and competitively obtaining quotations for the purchasing of tooling and bought out items (hands on and via the Purchasing Engineer), in order to start the build process on time and to within budget.
      • Actively working within the agreed budget, and reporting via the Mechtech Automation Group’s reporting systems
      • Communicating and reporting on project progress (time and finance) via the Mechtech Automation Group’s reporting systems
      • Solving problems and initiating corrective actions as required ensuring that the project is completed on time and within budget.

     

    1. Observe and comply with:
      • Mechtech Automation Group’s system of budgetary control.
      • Mechtech Automation Group’s reporting and management systems.
      • ISO 9001 Quality System.
      • CE/UKCA Safety Standards.
    2. Assist with the preparation and compiling of manuals and other related documents.

    Sales Manager

    Job Description – Sales Manager

    Background

    Mechtech Automation Group (“MAG”) comprises Robopod Limited and Mechatronic Production Systems Limited, leaders in the design and production of advanced automation solutions, working with market leading customers across diverse market sectors.  This dynamic business, based in the Midlands and employing approximately 30 people, is well placed for continued success.  To support ongoing growth the business is looking to appoint an entrepreneurial Technical Sales Engineer to work as a key member of the Sales & Concept Development Team.  The primary objective of this role is to achieve profitable revenue growth for MAG’s portfolio of bespoke automation, flexible manufacturing and service solutions. 

    The role requires a dynamic and credible individual capable of driving the development and sale of the companies offering.  The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a complex sales environment, influencing multiple stakeholders both internally and externally and working with customers and partners in a consultative style whilst maintaining focus on driving opportunities through to close. Success in the role will be dependent on developing business through direct and indirect sales channels and both new and existing customers.

     

    The Role

    • Build strong customer relationships, proactively identify business opportunities and drive opportunities to close though telephone, video and in person meetings / presentations.
    • Working closely with the Sales Business Development Manager for the preparation of customer proposals, negotiation of pricing, contractual terms and payment arrangements with customers (including suppliers when necessary).
    • Work closely with the existing equipment sales and operations teams and collaborate with other functions as necessary to support our customers.
    • Effectively manage customer and supplier issues, liaising with the relevant internal & external contacts to find resolution.
    • Provide input and support marketing initiatives and trade shows to actively promote the company and its complete scope of equipment and services.
    • Participate in the establishment and delivery of initiatives to enable the business to meet and exceed growth and profitability goals.
    • Reporting to the Sales Business Development Manager.
    • Report to the business on sales activity & broader market/competitor activity as required.
    • Actively seek out market and competitor intelligence.
    • Maintain the up-to-date status and integrity of CRM data relating to the projects and customers.  
    • Regular travelling to customer sites, including overseas travel as necessary, to achieve results is a requirement of the role.

     The Candidate

    • Experienced sales engineering professional eager to develop career and having a proven track record of successfully conceptualising, proposing and selling automation solutions, ideally gained within an automation / capital equipment environment.
    • New business focused, with the ability to generate own leads of enquiry, making initial contact with new potential customers through networking, cold calling or through social media.
    • Have an appreciation of capital equipment costs for automated machines and robotic system projects
    • Experience of Automation applications with an ability to 2D draw or 3D CAD model concepts within Automotive, Aerospace and Medical end user market sectors.
    • Highly organised and capable of planning, and prioritising workload
    • A self-starter, effective working alone and as part of a team
    • Experience of adhering to a structured sales process, pipeline management and CRM systems

    Main Purpose of Position.

    Management of Projects from kick-off to completion to ensure the machines and systems meet the specification outlined in the customer’s order, and are designed, built, and delivered on time, within budget, to meet the customer’s high expectation and are “Right First Time”. 

    It is the Project Manager’s mission to make things happen efficiently and effectively, so that projects flow smoothly from one project gateway to the next.  This will involve hands on work and influencing others to make sure things happen.

     

    Reports to.

    The Operations Manager.

     

    Interfaces with.

    Customers, Business Development Manager and Sales Team, Design Manager and Design Team, Control Team, Operations Manager and Team, The Mechanical and Electrical Build Team, Financial Administrator and Purchasing Team, other Project Leaders.

     

    Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities.

    1. Lead, co-ordinate, and control projects through the Mechatronic Project Gateway System which includes, Launch, Design, Procurement, Build, Development and Pass-Off while supporting Warranty, Service and After-Sales.
      • Ensure project scope is fully understood and agreed by both customer and Mechatronic through the URS (user requirement specification).
      • Plan, organise and manage meetings with the customer.
      • Plan, organise and manage design reviews, internally and with the customer, in conjunction with the Design Department.
      • Manage the preparation of FMEA, hazard identification and risk assessments in conjunction with multiple departments
      • Prepare, issue, maintain and report timing plans, for all phases of the project, to achieve the agreed milestones.
      • Generate project budget documents from base budget sales data and actively control the agreed budget, reporting any variances and expected cash flow.
      • Ensure that the design considerations budget matches the agreed budget and manage the purchasing of equipment ensuring it meets the project budget.
      • Review and audit the progress and quality at suppliers to ensure we are on track technically and on time.
      • Communicate effectively with all departments allowing a smooth transition between Gateways ensuring that the necessary information and documents are being supplied.
      • Be fully involved in the machine building phase in conjunction with the Operations team by conducting coal face meetings and walking the shop floor.
      • Drive problem solving, usually as part of a team and initiate corrective actions as required to keep the project on track.
      • Ensure design changes arising at the shop floor stage are correctly controlled, authorised and recorded.
      • Arrange and organise pre-production trials and customer pass off trials in conjunction with Operations and Controls Function.
      • Retain project ownership beyond the delivery phase into the warranty and after sales phase.
    1. Actively prepare for, participate in, and contribute to Management Meetings including:
      • Design Reviews.
      • Resource Meetings.
      • Operations Meetings.
      • Customer Review Meetings.
      • Monthly Project Presentations.
    1. Actively support other departments including Sales, Design and Operations, where needs determine it. This may involve hands on work.

     

    Person Profile.

    The successful job applicant will need to be:

    • Preferable to hold suitable engineering qualifications ideally to degree standard or equivalent.
    • Possess several years’ relevant experience in a project leader or management role within an engineering industry.
